Obama Visits Baghdad, Iraq.
Tuesday, April 7, 2009Obama surprised the US soldiers in Iraq by stopping by in Baghdad after the visit to Turkey. Obama dropped hints on how US soldiers would get out of Iraq soon. He said it is time for the Iraqis to "take responsibility for their country". "They need to take responsibility for their country." Obama also met the current prime minister of Iraq.
Obama has announced an exit strategy from Iraq in 19 months. However Obama has announced that 50,000 or more US troops will stay in Iraq after the withdrawal to protect Iraq from terrorism. On February when Obama was a presidential candidate he promised a withdrawal from Iraq within 16 months and did not mention anything about 50,000 soldiers remaining in Iraq.
Now many argue that Iraq is now a democracy and free state. Now there is no real Iraqi army, no Iraqi police, No true government, it is a perfect state for terrorists, that is why US is not withdrawing fully in 19 months. Iraq would be a complete chaos and terrorism would occur regularly. Iraq war we can conclude was not successfully as a big picture, many argue that it kept it us safe for 8 years. True we were and continue to be safe for 8 + years. However we cannot say Iraq war has kept us safe, because the only accomplishment in Iraq was overthrowing Saddam and his government.
BOTTOM LINE:Obama's visit in Iraq is to show his side, his "change" he promised. He also hopes to gain support from the troops who could be possible voters by 2012, if he decides to run again. There have been 4,265 US deaths in Iraq resulting from the war. Now the question is were the 4,265 soldiers worth Saddam and his government?
